Governor maintenance and repair procedure

Governor repair is the one the core services of Orient Technical Marine Co., Ltd from its formation and development to the present and in the future. We constantly invest in equipment , spare parts, backup governor and sending engineer to the training courses of the governer brand. Governor repair at our company will be done according to the following process:

► Governor maintenance and repair process:

The governor overhaul and repair are carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s regulations and carried out in professional governor repair workshops with a full range of repair tools, measuring equipment, spare parts backup and dynamic balancing to check the technical status of the governor before and after repair

Depending on the regulations of the services, governor repair will be done according to the procedure in consultation with the manufacturer. The following will introduce to you a manufacturer’s standard governor repair procedure

Step 1: Receive repair request from owner

When receiving the request for governor, the user should submit the request and point out the content of the repair order to be carried out by the workshop (Note: complete the information of the oil such as: name plate, type and serial number of the governor provided to the workshop for convenient inspection and preparation of spare parts)

For malfunctioning governor, when requesting repairs, its recommended that the user carefully describe the fault condition of the governor. If possible, the customer can asked the workshop to check directly with the operator on the actual engine.

Step 2: Remove and transfer governor to the repair workshop

In the process od the removing the governor from the engine, in order to avoid wasting time when reinstalling, the assembly positions should be marked: governor – common rail, drive coupling, speed setting devices, protective parts,…

After disassembly, it is important to mark and use a soft cloth to seal the bonding positions to protect against dirt and impact damage to the device. For convenience of transportation, we will install the governor on dedicated base.

Step 3: Governor test (including test on governor teststand and cleaning to check the inside details)

Check the condition of the governor before repairing: Put the governor on a dedicated teststand to determine parameters and actual technical status of the governor. On the governor teststand can we accurately conclude the damage of the governor? In the case of the governor overhaul, we can check the technical status and working parameters of the governor such as load response, oil leak, speed fluctuation, working speed zone, velocity oil pressure, fuel limit booster wind pressure, protective element….

To check the internal condition of the governor, disassemble the governor with a special tool and the correct type to avoid damaging the components

Note:  All seals and bearings must be replaced according to the manufacturer’s specifications. For the mechanical – hydraulic governor, the overhaul period is about 20,000 working hours or 2 years

When to carry out the inspection, except for parts that have been replaced according to the spare parts list used for overhaul “Service Kit”. If detecting abnormalities in other parts, it is necessaryto notify the user, depending on the degree of damage, that it is required to keep or replace

Step 4: Spare parts required

Fully prepare practical spare parts according to each type of governor

Step 5: Reassemble governor

Reassembling the governor requires precision, avoiding damage to the parts

After the assembly is complete, check that all the parts have been removed and that the replaced parts have to be fully reassembled. When finished, proceed to paint the exterior, fill oil in the governor and go to the next step

Step 6: Check and adjust the governor on the teststand

After the installation is complete, put the installation governor on the teststand and conduct a governor test, recording the test results in the report. In case there is a problem with the governor, turn it back to step 5, check and install again. If the inspection on the governor teststand meets the requirements, make a record of the repair and the report

Step 7: Report the result and hand over

After completing repair and inspect the governor, write full repair reports and hand over governor. In the event that a reinstallation of the governor on the engine is required, it is necessary to conduct a test run and make necessary minor adjustments on the engine during handover to the user
